Dublin – May 2006

Before deciding on Scotland as the place to settle down – it was down to Dublin, Ireland or Edinburgh… well, who would have thought that I end up living in Scotland and working in Dublin (for 6 months, anyway)… After a couple of months of commuting across to the Emerald Isle, Jenny joined me for a long weekend of sightseeing…

Here a few impressions of Dublin!...

St James Gate Guinness Brewery in Dublin. The self-paced tour of the old Storehouse/Brewery was very informative – and the obligatory tasting of the goods made it truly worth our time!!!

Well, Cheers!!!

Dublin Castle – slightly more colorful than the average Scottish Castle!

These days, the castle is used as an official Government building

The splendid interior of the Dublin Castle

St Patrick’s Cathedral and grounds

Christ Church

The Irish Government Building – the equivalent to the Beehive in Wellington

Display caskets at the Old Jameson’s Distillery – The Irish do their very best to point out the differences and explain why their Whiskey is so superior to a good Scotch… yeah, whatever!

You might wonder… well, a memorial to the people that perished during the Great Famine with the Ulster Bank Building as a backdrop – my work place!

Grafton Street – the heart of Dublin’s pedestrian/Shopping zone

Molly Mallone – also known as the ‘Tart with the Cart’…

A traditional (and no doubt VERY touristy) Irish Pub in Temple Bar.

Trinity College in Dublin – still a working University. The Old Library also houses the ‘Book of Kells’.
